ZAGNY will be hosting the XVI North American Congress in August 2012. The theme of this congress is “Zarathushti existence in the contemporary world”.
Between now and the August of 2012 we would like to explore various facets of this theme, to better understand all its dimensions and determine how it might best be presented at the congress. To that end ZAGNY has scheduled a few presentations, by scholars and by people who have deeply reflected on this theme.
The first lecture of this pre-conference series was held on April 03, 2011, Dr. Ali Jafarey was the speaker, and shared his views on the topic of “Zarathushti identity: what makes a person Zarathushti”
He expressed his views on what some of the potential threats are that we must overcome if we want to ensure not just the survival but blossoming of our religion.
This is the first of a three lecture series, leading up to the XVI North American Zarathushti Congress in 2012.
The lectures are organised by the Program Committee of the 2012 NAZC under the aegis of the Zoroastrian Association of Greater New York 9ZAGNY).
All opinions expressed are those of the individuals and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of ZAGNY and NAZC 2012.
Dr, Jafarey was the first speaker of this series. We will invite other speakers with different expertise areas, different belief structures, and different views about what our challenges are and how to overcome them. We believe there is strength in diversity. ZAGNY does not endorse any specific view, but it strongly endorses a need for an open, vigorous and respectful dialogue on the subject. Zarathushtra asked his listeners, “listen carefully to what I have to say, reflect upon this each of you individually, and make your own choice.”
This is what we ask you to do as different speakers present their varied perspectives.
