ZAGNY’s 35th Anniversary Celebration on Sat 1/24

Dear all—
We are celebrating the 35th Anniversary of the incorporation of  the Zoroastrian Association of Greater New York (ZAGNY) as a non-profit organization in the state of New York. Come celebrate this milestone with us on Sat. Jan 24th, 2009 as we commemorate this occasion and honor our history.

AIR INDIA RAFFLE:
We will be auctioning TWO Air India roundtrip economy tickets (to India from Chicago or New York) at this event. Opening bid of $500 each (additional applicable taxes & fees apply (~$415) – to be paid by passengers when tickets are issued). Tickets are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. Tickets are not eligible for frequent flyer miles. The travel must commence prior to September 30, 2009 and Tickets must be issued prior to May 31, 2009.

REVLON RUN/WALK EVENT — Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

The Zoroastrian Association of Greater New York will once again participate in the 12th Annual Revlon Run/Walk for Women in the fight to help eradicate women’s cancers.  Over the past several years, with the participation of ZAGNY members, their families and friends, we have raised thousands of dollars for this very worthy cause. Once again, we will be participating as a “TEAM” for this event. Our ZAGNY team No. 1109 has been activated and you can go ahead and register yourself.

Please fill out the form, step by step and as you get to the bottom of the page, make sure you enter our team no. 1109 to ensure that you are registered under our ZAGNY team. Our team name is Zoroastrian Association of Greater NY. The Registration fee is $30 which includes your registration fee, a t-shirt, and a gift bag.

Story of India

Meher Mistry draws our attention to a multi-part TV documentary on
India, which is to be broadcast in the Philadelphia area by WHYY
beginning at 9 p.m. this evening — Monday, Jan. 5 — and continuing
next week.
 
It promises to be a very comprehensive look at that ancient land where
our Zoroastrian ancestors first took refuge. Viewers are taken from

Aapri "Aysha Ghadiali" participating in the production of Wide Angle program on PBS


Aysha Ghadiali, a member of our UN-NGO Team, is contributing in the production of a documentary show
. Wide Angle, a weekly international affairs documentary show on PBS will air Birth of a Surgeon on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 9:00 pm (Please check your local TV program guide for the timing). Birth of a Surgeon travels to Mozambique where, for the first time, midwives are being trained in advanced life-saving surgery. Suffering from an acute shortage of doctors, Mozambique has launched bold grassroots initiatives that have cut the maternal death rate in half.  The film will conclude with an interview with Dr. Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization by Wide Angle host Aaron Brown. Aysha Ghadiali has done research for the show under Wide Angle’s production team in New York City.

AHURA SCHOLARSHIPS

Young Zoroastrians are invited to apply for the Ahura Scholarship for the academic year of 2008-2009.

There were five grants last year, and the Ahura Scholarship Board looks forward to receiving your applications this year.

The Ahura Scholarship mission:

“To promote leadership among young Zoroastrians in the academic, social, and political spheres.”

About the Ahura Scholarship:

This one-time grant helps finance undergraduate or graduate study by talented young Zoroastrians. Ahura Fellows receive $3,000; Ahura Strivers receive $1,000. Applicants must have been accepted to or be currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning. Candidates of diverse nationalities are welcomed to apply. Payment of the scholarship is dependent on receipt of a tuition statement and confirmed enrollment for the fall semester of 2008.
All completed applications must be postmarked by July 15, 2008.
