ZAGNY ANNOUNCES START OF GᾹTHᾹ STUDY GROUP

Dear Community Members

Keki Dadachanji and Adil Mistry would like to announce the formation of a Gāthā Study Group starting October 2019 to be held on the first Sunday of every month, same as the Sunday Religion Classes.  The inspiration for starting this Study Group comes from the fact that the Gāthās, the original teachings of Zarathustra, are often not well understood.  Just as we are investing in our youth with the Sunday Religion Classes, we felt that a program for adults will lead to a wide based foundation of religious awareness and knowledge within our community.  And there is no better platform than the study of the Gāthās which embody the purest and most sublime truths of our ancient religion.

Through ZAGNY and DMZT we have secured a meeting room for the study group. What this study group is not is a series of lectures, but it is intended to be an interactive discussion.  Keki will select the topics for each class which will be distributed in advance so that members will have time for pre-read.  The topics will not require extensive reading as the emphasis will be on depth and not speed.  Each session should last about an hour, occasionally longer, but not to exceed 90 minutes.

Prior knowledge is not necessary to join the group; however, we do request that participants have consistency of attendance, and a commitment to learn and participate, bringing with them their thoughts and questions.

We plan to use two Gāthā translations for added perspective: (1) Translation by D. J. Irani, and (2) Translation by I. J. S. Taraporewala.  Group members will have the choice to use hard or digital copies, or both. We expect that this will be the only expense to the extent that group members don’t already have these translations.

We are very excited to offer this program to the community.  If you have any questions on the structure, content, or organization of the Gāthā Study Group please feel free to reach out to either Keki Dadachanji at kekird@gmail.com, or Adil Mistry at afmistry@gmail.com.

If you would like to register for this program please sign-up by May 31st by filling out the form below.
